Natural Product Identification
Common Name5-Methylnaringenin 7-glucoside
DescriptionPuddumin A belongs to the class of organic compounds known as flavonoid-7-o-glycosides. These are phenolic compounds containing a flavonoid moiety which is O-glycosidically linked to carbohydrate moiety at the C7-position. Thus, puddumin a is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. Puddumin A is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, Puddumin A has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as cereals and cereal products, millets, flours, fruits, and corns. 5-Methylnaringenin 7-glucoside is found in Prunus cerasoides . This could make puddumin a a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
