Common NameAnofinic acid
DescriptionAnofinic acid, also known as anofinate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 2,2-dimethyl-1-benzopyrans. These are organic compounds containing a 1-benzopyran moiety that carries two methyl groups at the 2-position. Anofinic acid is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Anofinic acid has been detected, but not quantified in, mushrooms. Anofinic acid is found in Anodendron affine, Bhesa paniculata, Curvularia fallax, Gentiana algida, Gentiana lutea, Lactarius deliciosus , Piper aduncum and Rhizophora apiculata. This could make anofinic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
