| Common Name | R-2-Propenyl 1-propenesulfinothioate |
|---|
| Description | R-2-Propenyl 1-propenesulfinothioate, also known as 5-bromo-protocatechuic acid or 3-bromo-4,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as thiosulfinic acid esters. These are organic compounds containing an ester of thiosulfinic acid with the general structure RS(=S)OR' (R, R'=alkyl, aryl). R-2-Propenyl 1-propenesulfinothioate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, R-2-Propenyl 1-propenesulfinothioate has been detected, but not quantified in, onion-family vegetables. This could make R-2-propenyl 1-propenesulfinothioate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
