Common NameIsocapric acid
DescriptionIsocapric acid, also known as isocaprate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as medium-chain fatty acids. These are fatty acids with an aliphatic tail that contains between 4 and 12 carbon atoms. Isocapric acid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, Isocapric acid has been detected, but not quantified in, soy beans. Isocapric acid is found in Pelargonium graveolens and Solanum pennellii. This could make isocapric acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
