DescriptionMethylisopelletierine belongs to the class of organic compounds known as piperidines. Piperidines are compounds containing a piperidine ring, which is a saturated aliphatic six-member ring with one nitrogen atom and five carbon atoms. Methylisopelletierine is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Methylisopelletierine has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits and pomegranates. Methylisopelletierine is found in Picea breweriana, Sedum acre , Phedimus aizoon, Sedum kamtschaticum , Sedum sarmentosum and Withania somnifera . This could make methylisopelletierine a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
