DescriptionVerbenalin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as iridoid o-glycosides. These are iridoid monoterpenes containing a glycosyl (usually a pyranosyl) moiety linked to the iridoid skeleton. Thus, verbenalin is considered to be an isoprenoid lipid molecule. Verbenalin is found in Cornus capitata, Cornus florida, Cornus kousa, Cornus officinalis , Cornus spp., Penstemon grandiflorus, Penstemon mucronatus, Penstemon nitidus, Penstemon pachyphyllus, Penstemon secundiflorus, Symplocos glauca, Verbena brasiliensis, Verbena hastata, Verbena litoralis, Verbena spp. and Verbena stricta. Verbenalin is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral.
