Common NameHydroxycitronellol
Description(±)-Hydroxycitronellol, also known as hydroxydihydrocitronellol, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty alcohols. These are aliphatic alcohols consisting of a chain of a least six carbon atoms. Thus, (±)-hydroxycitronellol is considered to be a fatty alcohol lipid molecule (±)-Hydroxycitronellol is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral (±)-Hydroxycitronellol is a mild, clean, and floral tasting compound. Outside of the human body, (±)-Hydroxycitronellol is found, on average, in the highest concentration within highbush blueberries (±)-Hydroxycitronellol has also been detected, but not quantified in, common grapes. This could make (±)-hydroxycitronellol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
