DescriptionHexamethylquercetagetin, also known as 35673'4'-hexamethoxyflavone or aurantin, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 7-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C7 atom of the flavonoid backbone. Thus, hexamethylquercetagetin is considered to be a flavonoid lipid molecule. Hexamethylquercetagetin is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, Hexamethylquercetagetin is found, on average, in the highest concentration within sweet oranges. Hexamethylquercetagetin has also been detected, but not quantified in, grapefruits. 3-Methoxysinensetin is found in Callicarpa pilosissima, Chiliadenus montanus, Citrus aurantium, Citrus japonica, Citrus mitis, Citrus spp., Jasonia montana, Pallenis spinosa, Pulicaria arabica and Vitex negundo. This could make hexamethylquercetagetin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
