Natural Product Identification
Common NameIsoliquiritin
DescriptionIsoliquiritin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as flavonoid o-glycosides. Flavonoid O-glycosides are compounds containing a carbohydrate moiety which is O-glycosidically linked to the 2-phenylchromen-4-one flavonoid backbone. Thus, isoliquiritin is considered to be a flavonoid. Isoliquiritin is a secondary metabolite. Secondary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically non-essential metabolites that may serve a role as defense or signalling molecules. In some cases they are simply molecules that arise from the incomplete metabolism of other secondary metabolites. Isoliquiritin is found in Allium chinense , Glycyrrhiza aspera, Glycyrrhiza glabra , Glycyrrhiza inflata , Glycyrrhiza kansuensis, Glycyrrhiza spp., Glycyrrhiza spp.,, Glycyrrhiza uralensis and Trifolium subterraneum . It was first documented in 2005 (PMID: 16159166). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on isoliquiritin (PMID: 23325115) (PMID: 23336517) (PMID: 24247527) (PMID: 25871879).
