Emodic acid is found in Flavocetraria cucullata, Holopus rangii, Penicillium aurantiogriseum, Penicillium cyclopium, Penicillium restrictum and Xanthoria parietina. Emodic acid was first documented in 1940 (PMID: 16747151). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Emodic acid.
