Description(-)-Dihydropertusaric acid belongs to the class of organic compounds known as gamma butyrolactones. Gamma butyrolactones are compounds containing a gamma butyrolactone moiety, which consists of an aliphatic five-member ring with four carbon atoms, one oxygen atom, and bears a ketone group on the carbon adjacent to the oxygen atom. (2s,3s,4s)-4-methyl-5-oxo-2-(13-oxotetradecyl)oxolane-3-carboxylic acid is found in Pertusaria albescens. (2s,3s,4s)-4-methyl-5-oxo-2-(13-oxotetradecyl)oxolane-3-carboxylic acid was first documented in 1999 (PMID: 10579875). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on (-)-Dihydropertusaric acid.
