| Description | Zedoarondiol belongs to the class of organic compounds known as guaianes. These are sesquiterpenoids with a structure based on the guaiane skeleton. Guaiane is a bicyclic compound consisting of a decahydroazulene moiety, substituted with two methyl groups and a 1-methylethyl group at the 1-, 4-, and 7-position, respectively. Zedoarondiol is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Zedoarondiol has been detected, but not quantified in, turmerics. Zedoarondiol is found in Curcuma aeruginosa, Curcuma aromatica, Curcuma longa and Curcuma zedoaria. Zedoarondiol was first documented in 2009 (PMID: 19398040). This could make zedoarondiol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
