Description | Beta-D-Galactose, also known as gal-beta or b-D-gal, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hexoses. These are monosaccharides in which the sugar unit is a is a six-carbon containing moeity. Beta-D-Galactose exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to plants to humans. Beta-D-Galactose is a primary metabolite. Primary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically essential metabolites. They are directly involved in an organism’s growth, development or reproduction. beta-L-galactopyranose is found in Mus musculus and Symphytum tuberosum. beta-L-galactopyranose was first documented in 2004 (Roslund, M. U., et al.). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on beta-D-Galactose. |
